SoS Post 2

The secret society, Seven Days, Guitar is a part of made me think deeply about how messed up the situation was. On the one hand yes it's awful that blacks are being killed and the killers are being left unpunished, but on the other hand it's equally as awful for blacks to be killing whites at random. There's no right justification for murder of either race. Guitar in this sense is becoming just as morally wrong and "unnatural" as the whites who are murdering blacks. The Seven Days society Guitar is a part of shows how Morrsion was attempting to give the reader a sense of how confused people were. Although Guitar's immense rage is justifiable, him murdering whites doesn't help racism or how the American American community is seen.

Song of Solomon Post 1

Chapter 1:

After Ms. Maxey mentioned that chapter one held a huge importance to the novel I went back and looked over it again briefly. This chapter puts the big central element of flight and escaping into the reader's minds. This is shown with Robert Smith's "flight" off the hospital roof. Also, African Americans have held this idea of human flight to freedom for many years. Toni Morrison uses an illusion to Icarus to further develop this idea of flight as a central component to the novel. This chapter makes it evident that this topic will be discussed and touched upon throughout reading, This chapter also begins to show the elements of race, gender, and the significance of names. Even after only reading the first few chapters, I can see how Toni Morrison will eventually relate events and themes back to this first chapter.
